At the Be Inspired! event on December 14, 2011, a group of Oxford academics presented a series of short inspirational talks around various writers that inspire. The talks were all recorded and will be published as podcasts as part of the Great Writers Inspire project.
The first speaker, Francis Leneghan, talked about Beowulf and showed digital copies of the original manuscript. He introduced the role of the traditional narrator and let us both see examples of the text and hear them read.
He also invited us to think about how traditional the poem is, points to rethorical features and features of oral poetry that are explcit in the text.
An inspirational and illustrative introduction to Beowolf the poem and the narrator.
